Andrea Varangu

Art has always been integral in Andrea’s life. She’s been a collector, an art educator and most of all a creator throughout her life, and especially since retiring from her career in television production and moving to Prince Edward County ten years ago. At this point she was finally able to make time to take her artistic pursuits seriously. Initially most of Andrea’s paintings were in Dry (or Soft) Pastel, which is a dry pigment that she applies to sanded papers. In the last few years, she has also become passionate about oil painting….so now she works in wet or dry medium depending on the mood.

Andrea’s paintings cover a wide variety of subjects from landscapes to still life and portraiture. Most often they show her interest in the effect of the light on the scene and you may notice her particular focus in painting water, reflection and translucency. Andrea’s contemporary realistic paintings share a narrative and a sense of place. Her work can be found in private collections in Canada and the United States and has been accepted into many juried shows across Canada, as well as here in our area at the Parrott Gallery and at Art in the County. She is active in the local art community with the Rednersville Road Art Tour, Gallery 121 in Belleville and is so happy to be back again at Arts on Main Gallery in Picton. Andrea is a signature member of Pastel Artists Canada.
