Andrew Phua
Andrew Phua (APhua) is a multidisciplinary artist and bespoke designer whose practice bridges fashion, photography, and art. Born in Indonesia, he grew up between Indonesia and Australia. He graduated from RMIT University’s Fashion Design program in Melbourne and later studied Creative Photography at Humber College in Toronto, experiences that continue to shape his approach to design and visual expression.

As a bespoke designer, Andrew creates custom clothing that celebrates individuality while embracing sustainable practices. His practice also includes custom bowties displayed in shadowbox and fabric origami butterflies, transforming fashion accessories into pieces that can be both worn and appreciated as art. By incorporating forgotten and unused materials—including treasured garments and jewelry from deceased family members—he creates meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Alongside his fashion practice, Andrew is developing textile mixed-media artworks using fabric remnants and off-cuts from his design process. Through hand stitching, material exploration, and recontextualizing these fragments, his work engages with material memory and transformation, allowing narrative to surface through form, texture, and process.

Through this lens, Andrew’s work proposes a resource-conscious approach to design—one defined by attentiveness, individuality, and the thoughtful reimagining of materials into considered contemporary objects. His practice continues to explore the space between fashion and art, where clothing, accessories, and textile works can be experienced in new ways. His latest project, FASHION BECOMES ART!, further explores this relationship by presenting fashion pieces as artworks worthy of display and contemplation.

Andrew regularly shares new work and upcoming market appearances on Instagram at @getfancybyaphua where visitors can discover his limited fashion pieces, and at @andrew_phua where he shares his upcoming gallery exhibitions and art projects.
