Mike McGuire - Bark Woodshop
Michael McGuire
For Michael McGuire, woodworking is more than a craft; it is a lifelong passion rooted in family, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the abstract beauty of wood grain.

His journey began as a young boy in Thunder Bay, where he was inspired by his great uncle’s woodshop. Watching a master carpenter transform rough lumber into functional works of art left a lasting impression and sparked a fascination that would stay with him throughout his life. After many years in the corporate world, Michael chose to pursue woodworking full-time and established Bark Woodshop & Studio in Prince Edward County.

Working primarily with hardwoods, Michael creates end-grain cutting boards, charcuterie boards, Ambitious Susans, magnetic knife blocks, custom furniture, and commissioned pieces. His designs are rooted in the natural beauty of wood, sometimes complemented by understated resin accents that highlight grain patterns, add visual depth, and create a contemporary touch.

Michael’s work is characterized by clean design, meticulous attention to detail, and a respect for the unique character of every piece of wood. Each creation is handcrafted in his studio and designed to become part of everyday life, whether gathered around a kitchen island, displayed on a dining table, or passed down through generations.

Michael’s craftsmanship continues to gain recognition beyond Prince Edward County. He previously appeared on HGTV alongside renowned designer and builder Bryan Baeumler. In the fall of 2026, selected works from Bark Woodshop & Studio will be available through the Art Gallery of Ontario, further expanding his reach to art enthusiasts and visitors from around the world.

In addition to being an artist at Arts on Main, Michael McGuire operates Bark Woodshop & Studio, a working woodshop in Prince Edward County where all Bark Woodshop pieces are designed and made. Located on scenic Closson Road, visitors are welcome to stop by and see where the sawdust happens and experience the work in progress.
