British-born artist G L Barrett is on a mission to highlight the beauty in the smallest lives. They take a portrait-style approach to insect photography, offering a different view into the world of our unseen neighbours.

G L Barrett’s expertise in graphic design and creative writing also plays a role in their art. This is most apparent in their debut ‘Propagate’ series, which humanised the plant experience of propagation through striking typography and poetry.

Over the past two years, G L Barrett’s art has been featured in over a dozen shows, from Kingston to Toronto and Hamilton, in addition to solo shows in Prince Edward County. Their photography of Salticidae has also accompanied their non-fiction article about the species in conservation publication, Minnow magazine. As an author and disillusioned technologist, they have written short stories about the impact of AI on society and are currently working on a speculative fiction novel set in a post-Internet world.
